Psychopathology in Epilepsy

Abstract
The relationship between epilepsy and psychiatric disorders remains a controversial issue of long standing in psychiatry. In assessing the possible relationship between epilepsy and psychiatric disturbances. it is essential to divide the
psychopathogy
largely into periictal and interictal symtoms. Considering the time relatedness with the fit or fits. The periictal psychiatric disturbances are more like the symtoms of acute organic mental disorders. While the interictal ones nearly always
similar to
general psychiatric disorders. This article mainly reviewed the interictal psychopathology. Special interictal symptoms are hypergraphia, hyperreligiosity. And sexual dysfuntions. Depression does not sem to be clearly influenced by epileptic
variables.
Although interlinks with anticonvulsant therapy have been demonstrated. Schizophrenia-like or nuclear schizophrenia and delusional disorders are commonly seen in epileptic patients. in particular temporal lobe epileptics.
